W Amsterdam is located in the very heart of the Dutch capital, right behind the Royal Palace. It is housed in two historic buildings - the old Dutch Royal Post Office near Dam Square and the adjoining former bank building at Spuistraat 172.
We started our adventure with this project from the production of double-sided rotary mirrors for all rooms. We made a spectacular pipe installation in all common areas of the hotel, for production of which we used over 6 kilometres of pipes painted in brass colour. The challenge was to maintain the continuity of the installation changing into partitions, parts of the bar, seats and decorative lighting.
We also made a brass portal for each elevator entry in the entire hotel - 44 in total.
We delivered a 6-meter-long sofa for the lobby, the base of which is in a shape of continuous ribbon made of 5 mm thick brass sheet, and a seat made of natural leather finished with a timeless stitch pattern. To transport this size of sofa to the 6th floor of the hotel we needed to use a crane.
Mr Porter Restaurant is lit by extraordinary chandeliers with a diameter of nearly 4 metres.
Made of solid brass and specially designed mesh, they perfectly combine modernity and classic luxury. Each lamp can be controlled separately, creating a cosy and intimate atmosphere in the room.
We built aluminium bookcases in the rooms, which create interesting compositions thanks to their structure and different colours of the shelves.
We also designed and produced the wall finish for the Meeting Room. The cladding is made of perforated steel, painted black. The perforation consists of round holes of different diameters which form a flower pattern.
At the entrance to the building, you can see the canopy cladding made from custom-made profiles. It resembles a honeycomb that hides the lighting and heating which make waiting for the cab more pleasant.
One of the buildings houses the X-bank showroom which promotes young designers from around the world. In its interior, we made a system of displays suspended on steel wire ropes.
We topped the whole project off with comprehensive internal and external signage of the buildings.
The most interesting element is the logo - the letter W at the entrance to the hotel.
It was designed and manufactured from anodized aluminium, specially embossed profiles and LED modules hidden behind a golden Venetian mirror. During the day, the inside of the letter reflects the surroundings while after dark it serves as a display.
